Dialog Devices Ltd is developing Padd for non-invasive screening for Peripheral Arterial Disease (blood flow problems in the feet). 170 million people aged over 55 years in Europe and US are at risk of developing PAD. Asymptomatic PAD is 'silent' heart disease and stroke that are preventable with earlier diagnosis of PAD. Existing Ankle Brachial Pressure Index screening technology requires skilled operators, is time consuming and unreliable when screening diabetics; whereas Padd is quick and easy to use, low cost and inclusive. The existing market for PAD screening is expected to grow over 5-fold with the introduction of Chronic Disease Management programs to contain the rapidly increasing healthcare costs from diabetes and heart disease. Padd has been used at a top London hospital to confirm its diagnostic value.
